We’re stepping out of our comfort zones and onto the dance floor for Stars of Narrabri Dance for Cancer 2026!
It all started when Jen dobbed Amanda in and now here we are, both going along for the ride! Neither of us has ever danced before, so there’s sure to be plenty of laughs, a few wrong turns, and maybe even some surprise moves along the way.
Cancer has touched both of our lives personally, and this challenge means so much to us. We’re dancing for hope, for strength, and for everyone who’s been affected by cancer.
Every dollar counts and helps fund vital research, care, and support services.
We might not be professional dancers, but we’re giving it everything we’ve got because together, we can make a difference. So come along for the ride and cheer us on as we dance for a cure!
My Updates
First Rehearsal
Jen - I don’t know what I expected walking into our first ever Dance for Cancer rehearsal, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t… whatever that was. I mean, I came prepared comfy clothes, water bottle, the whole “I’m-basically-a-professional” routine. But ten minutes in, I realised two things:
1. I am not a professional.
2. Amanda was about to become a liability.
Amanda:
Okay, rude. I’ll admit, Honestly though, I was feeling pretty proud of myself until the mirror betrayed me. Nothing like a wall of reflections to make you realise your arms are doing jazz-hands while everyone else is doing… whatever normal people do.
Jennifer:
Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to pretend my lungs aren’t filing a formal complaint. When Lauren said it would be “a gentle start,” I didn’t realise that meant “gentle like a speeding bus.” But I wasn’t about to be outdone by Amanda, who was dancing like she’d just had four iced coffees.
Amanda:
And yet somehow you were still the one who nearly slipped doing the grapevine. I swear you made eye contact with me on the way down like you were leaving this world and wanted your final message to be, ‘Tell my family I love them.’
Anyway, we both admit after approximately twelve hours ,or maybe it was 2 hours we finally got through learning 1 minute and 6 seconds. And surprisingly, it was… fun? Like, ridiculously fun. We messed up, laughed, spun the wrong way, high-fived each other every time we didn’t fall over, and by the end, we actually looked a tiny bit like dancers. If you squint very hard..
