ABBY KOCH | LAING + SIMMONS PORT MACQUARIE

Abby Koch is a Licensed Real Estate Agent at Laing+Simmons Port Macquarie, working alongside her parents in the family business she's been part of since she was five years old. A lifelong Port Macquarie local, Abby is a people person at heart, passionate about helping others through life's biggest moments, whether that's finding the perfect home or cheering on her netball players as a volunteer coach with Port Combined Netball Club. She also serves as Membership Coordinator for the Hastings Business Women's Network and is known around town for her sweet tooth, love of baking, and being a proud mum to her backyard chickens.

Cancer has touched Abby's family in multiple ways, most significantly through her dad's prostate cancer diagnosis around five years ago and her mum and other family members facing skin cancers and melanomas over the years. She's grateful her loved ones are still here today, and knows that early detection, research, and awareness made all the difference. Through her work in real estate and everyday life, she sees how often cancer impacts those around her, including many of her own clients. Abby has grown up dancing and giving back to the Port Macquarie community, and if she can use her platform to raise funds, build awareness, and help kick cancer in the butt, she could only ever say yes.

My Updates

My Dance Genre Announced: THEATRICAL! 🎭

At the launch for Stars of Hastings, Sarge and Hope announced that my genre this year is “Theatrical” and asked whether I’ve had any experience with it before.

I wouldn’t say I’ve got a “serious dancer resume” or anything like that… But I have spent most of my childhood years in some pretty memorable costumes and questionable hair choices, so I feel like I’m quietly well-prepared.

It’s a really fun, broad genre, though - There’s so much you can do with it. Characters, storytelling, a bit of drama, a bit of fun… I’m genuinely really excited to lean into it.

I’ve danced at La Vive Studios (LVS) since I was a toddler (initially under the guidance of the beautiful Miss Elizabeth), and growing up there has meant plenty of time on stage, in rehearsal, and in some very interesting outfits.

From my first debut as a Heffalump in Winnie the Pooh, to my Cindy Lou Who era in Seussical The Musical, to more recent LVS productions like Beyond the Yellow Brick Road… It’s been a lot of fun characters and even more fun memories.

Now I’m really excited to be dancing with Miss Miranda, under the guidance of current LVS Legend/Principal Liz Seiger, for this year’s performance. Stay tuned for some behind-the-scenes coming soon!

In the meantime, enjoy a few throwbacks from over the years - glad someone can find the “theatrical” entertaining! And yes, I can confirm that IS my real hair. Thanks Mum for the effort! That was certainly a long and memorable drive to Taree Dance Eisteddfod...

Meet My Amazing Dance Teacher

Miranda Webster  |  La Vive Studios

Miranda grew up dancing in Port Macquarie, taught professionally in Sydney, and returned to the region she loves as head tap teacher at La Vive Studios, where she also runs adult classes across multiple styles. Now 30 and in her fifth year at LVS, she fits all of that around being mum to three kids and married to her high school sweetheart Tom.

Three and a half years ago Miranda was diagnosed with appendix cancer, an extremely rare disease that required major surgery. She has been in remission ever since. Performing at an event that raises funds for cancer research while doing something she loves is something Miranda genuinely calls a blessing.
