I'm fundraising for...
I am supporting this event after my very good friend participated last year and we got to see the work that the Cancer Council does to support patients and families through their journey. As someone in the medical profession who sees patients through many different journeys I can understand and appreciate the resources it takes to support people through tough, uncertain and emotionally difficult times and we rely on organisations like the Cancer Council to help provide this support especially for less advantaged or more remote communities. In my own life I have lost four family members to cancer and had two more with potentially life-threatening diagnoses now treated successfully with advances in research and treatment. If this is possible for more people by participating in something in my community, I am so happy to be there!
About me:
I am originally from South Africa but have lived and worked in the Northern Beaches since 2008. I am raising my family here and am lucky enough to work in the community I live in. I am a paediatrician, so I get to work with a beautiful team taking care of children and their families. I am always grateful to work in a field that I love, with people that support me and being a window on people’s journeys.
I am dancing to support those journeys and those families. To support any family who has been delivered the words “your child has cancer” and for them to feel the support from a community when so many have been affected, myself included.
I have “absolutely zero dance
experience” except on random tables through my misspent youth (and early 40’s) 😊 I am excited to once
again share this night with my beautiful team at the hospital, to represent
what is the best in health and to be part of a community fundraiser.
