Danielle Camer

Stars of Wollongong 2026

⭐MEET THE STAR⭐

Dr Danielle Camer is a quirky, driven and resilient multi‑award‑winning medical communicatorformer neuroscientist and children’s author whose work has helped shape healthcare communication across Australia and around the world. As the Founder and Director of The Human Medical Writer, Danielle creates engaging, scientifically accurate content for healthcare professionals and public health campaigns — work that directly contributes to improving global health outcomes.

With more than a decade of experience supporting healthcare advertising agencies, pharmaceutical leaders such as Pfizer, Roche and Sanofi, and major medical organisations, Danielle has helped guide highly successful launch campaigns — including campaigns exceeding sales targets by more than 15% and, which more importantly, saved countless lives. Her business specialises in credible, code‑compliant (including Medicines Australia & TGA) medical content that is AI‑informed but 100% human‑led.

Danielle is also a celebrated children’s picture book author. Her debut, Sophie Won’t Sleephas won more than ten international awards and even appeared on a Times Square billboard. Her upcoming picture book, Amelia Ocelot and the Strange Spot, a creative nonfiction story about skin cancer and due for release in 2027, features a foreword by Melanoma Institute Australia’s Medical Director and 2024 Australian of the Year, Professor Georgina Long AO.

Danielle’s motivation for joining Stars of Wollongong – Dance for Cancer is deeply personal. In 2023, she lost her husband, Clint Shumack, to metastatic melanoma at just 37 years old, becoming a widowed parent to their six‑year‑old daughter. Clint was her high‑school sweetheart and a talented ballroom dancer who once won medals in his teens. When Danielle recently found the ballroom shoes she wore when they took dance lessons together as teenagers, something told her to hold onto themIt must have been a sign, and to join Stars of Wollongong – Dance for Cancer “Feels like the right way to honour him.”

Going into the competition, Danielle’s biggest strength is her creativity — but she admits her biggest fear is “not reaching and exceeding my fundraising target.” Her dance experience includes primary‑school jazz and ballet, ballroom classes with Clint, and plenty of dance‑floor fun. Her signature move is The Cake Slice, inspired by her enthusiastic arm‑flailing during “Slice of Heaven.” Eurovision, Scandipop, Lady Gaga and DeadMau5 always get her moving.

🎉 Fun Facts About Danielle

  • A self‑confessed Eurovision tragic — she once dressed as IKEA and attended Eurovision in Liverpool in 2023.

  • She met baby sloths in Costa Rica, inspiring her award‑winning debut book.

  • She has a PhD in Medicine (Neuroscience) and transitioned from research into medical communications in 2015.

Her dream dance partner? Ukrainian Eurovision icon Verka Serduchka.

EuroGong Dance Party

Thank you to everyone who came to the EuroGong Dance Party at The Icon Wollongong on Friday 8th May. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

I am excited to share that we raised over $2000 on the evening, from ticket sales and donations to this page on the night! Thank you so much for your support.

Our shout out video to the Australian Eurovision representative, Delta Goodrem, didn't go unnoticed. Delta herself left a lovely comment for us!

EuroGong Song Contest

Hi all,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for attending the EuroGong Song Contest at the Harp Hotel today. Your support means so much. I hope you enjoyed the afternoon as much as I did!

Today alone, we raised just over $2500 for the Cancer Council (which means >$4000 so far in total raised), which is just incredible. I couldn’t do it without you all.

To all of you who entered the contest, thank you so much for so bravely getting up on stage to perform and for sharing your stories. I appreciate your generosity and I know this would have been really hard to share. The crowd loved you all! I hope you also enjoyed the video messages from Dami Im and Courtney Act!

Congratulations to our EuroGong Song Contest WINNERS:
- Kijana with Milkshake Man (Judged 1st place)
- Tina with Valerie by Amy Winehouse (Judged 2nd place)
- Jen with Rise Like a Phoenix by Conchita Wurst (People’s Choice)

Thank you so much again to our judges Angelo from the Harp, Wollongong’s Country Music Superstar Tania Nichamin, and Amy Hall from Banksia Support Services for giving up their time to score all of our brilliant acts today. I’d also like to say a huge thank you to my dance partner, DJ Ralphy for hosting and DJing today.

I’d like to again thank Amy Hall from Banksia Support Services so much for her generous $500 cash prize donation for our judged winner, Tania Nichamin for donating fab merch (love the HOE down shirts!) for 2nd place, and Natasha Panetta from Busy Goddess Marketing Co for her generous $500 cash prize donation for People’s Choice, as well as hustling hard to help us raise at least $3000 total in a bid to get me singing on stage! And Jen, your gesture to re-donate your prize money was just so touching - thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

If you took any photos or videos today, please send them to me or tag me on instagram @drdaniellecamer
