Say hello to Declan Edwards!

Throughout my career I’ve been called many things - a happiness thought leader, the Founder of the award-winning social enterprise; BU Happiness College, and 'That Happiness Guy'. But I’ve never been called a dancer! 

Since founding BU Happiness College in 2017, my work has been featured globally in publications including the Harvard Business Review, Psychology Today, and the ABC. I’ve also presented masterclasses throughout Australia and appeared as a guest on a wide range of podcasts and radio shows (none of which involved any dancing) 

As a Happiness Researcher, I know that giving back to a meaningful cause, doing challenging things, and feeling part of a local community are all big contributors to happiness. 

This is exactly why I'm so excited to be part of this year's Stars of Newcastle, raising funds for Cancer Council NSW. It’s a rewarding challenge for me personally and it’s supporting the incredibly valuable and needed work that the Cancer Council NSW does

Stage rehearsals

It’s getting real! We now have dancing shoes

Whenever I heard references in music to people putting on their “dancing shoes” I didn’t know they’d literally meant shoes specifically made for dancing. Hopefully these bad boys are like the magic basketball shoes from the movie “like Mike”. But instead of making me play basketball like Michael Jordan, hopefully they make me dance like Ricky Martin 🕺

Dance Lesson Update

Dance lessons are going well. I’m doing 3 x group classes per week plus 1 x private class every Friday to learn my choreography for the show. It’s challenging me a lot but I’m really enjoying it - plus it’s all for a fantastic cause! Stay tuned for an exciting announcement soon!

2 Weeks In

Second week of dance classes and we are starting to get the hang of the basics. Just over 13 weeks until showtime! 🕺 keep those donations coming in!

As of today’s media launch event we are officially on!

This morning was jam-packed with meeting the other stars, delivering interviews, and finding out our genres. 

I’m incredibly excited to share that I’ll be dancing “Salsa” with the support of my dance instructor/partner from Dance on Newcastle!

Having just spent a few months in Latin America I’m thrilled to be dancing salsa. My hips definitely need some work to get moving like Shakira or Ricky Martin - but I’m ready to put in the work 🕺
