Jan Terkelsen

Stars of Byron Bay

Driven by a deep commitment to growth, contribution, and community

Jan Terkelsen has called Byron Bay home for over 23 years, where her passion for community, connection, and wellbeing runs deep. She’s been an active patrol member at the Byron Bay Surf Club for several years and loves swimming the bay — enjoying the ocean and all the friendly creatures in it.

A former personal trainer and long-time member of the Byron Bay Bootcamp community, Jan has always believed in the power of movement, mindset, and nature to build strength and resilience.

Professionally, Jan works in leadership development, helping people become more self-aware, grounded, and effective in how they lead and live. With over 20 years of experience, she’s co-founder of People Leaders, co-host of the People Leaders Podcast, and has worked with organisations across Australia and beyond. Her belief is simple: when leaders take care of themselves and know themselves well, they lead others better.

Jan has also volunteered as a refugee support worker, teaching English and helping people feel safe, included, and confident in a new country. Whether she’s on the beach, in a workshop, or behind a mic — Jan is driven by a deep commitment to growth, contribution, and community.

My Updates

Have to remember to bend my knees

One of the most important things in Hula is to bend your knees. That way you can swing your hips. Lucky, I do squats!

Aloha

Had my first dance rehearsal today. Its all in the knees and hips. The surprise for me is how spiritual and meaningful Hula is. And what the word Aloha stands for.
