Why I chose to be involved in the 2022 Stars Of Hastings
Fund raising for this amazing charity isn't something new to me. In 2013 I ran the New York City half marathon for Cancer Council, raising nearly $4K.
This came shortly after my own diagnosis, treatment and three surgeries for thyroid cancer in 2011. At the time I had a new born baby and a two year old, and it truly felt like my world turned on its head in an instant. I was so fortunate to face what is considered the "garden variety" of this disease, however during my treatment my dear friend Charlotte, who had been such a supporter of me during my illness, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer which in the blink of an eye cut her life short at the age of 37. Since then I have also watched my beautiful friend Alana support her son Ozzie through a lengthy battle with leukemia. Their bravery has been inspirational and has given me the courage to go way out of my comfort zone to do what I can to support Cancer Council and hopefully one day eliminate this disease, which touches all of us in some way through our lives.
I have experienced first hand the amazing work Cancer Council does to support people in this situation, so when I was presented with this opportunity to dance for cancer there was no way I could decline.
