Kate Gurd is fun, loving and caring to her core — and she brings all that warmth into her role with the Pink Diamonds Breast Cancer Support Group in the Illawarra. As a facilitator, she helps create a safe, supportive and joy‑filled community where women can share their journeys, lift one another up, and enjoy social catch‑ups filled with laughter, connection and heart. 

For Kate, joining Stars of Wollongong – Dance for Cancer is deeply personal. After going through her own breast cancer diagnosis, Cancer Council’s support made an enormous difference in her life. Taking the stage is her way of giving back — a celebration of reclaiming her body, her confidence, her joy and her identity as a woman. It’s also a reminder that healing is not only about surviving… but about living loudly and fully again. 

Kate’s biggest strength going into the competition? She’s willing to try anything once — especially if it means adventure, fun and pushing herself outside her comfort zone. Her biggest nerves? Stepping onto that stage in front of a huge crowd — but she’s knows the incredible community behind her will be cheering loudly! 

A former burlesque fan‑dancing student, Kate loves everything from ABBA to Pearl Jam, and she’s known to dance her way through house‑cleaning sessions to Fleetwood Mac. Her friends lovingly call her the Dancing Queen — and yes, her signature fan move is the “windmill,” though she admits she needs to make sure she doesn’t accidentally wipe herself out mid‑spin!

She loves waterslides… but is terrified of heights. 

After finishing active cancer treatment, she climbed into a life‑size martini glass for a photoshoot — getting out of it was even funnier. 

Born in the 70s, dancing in the 90s — rhythm, nostalgia and sass included. 

Her dream dance partner? Marilyn Monroe — timeless glamour with a little mischief. 

Kate’s signature move? The Windmill Queen — fierce, flirty and fabulously unpredictable. 

For fundraising, she’s planning a Muse School of Burlesque showcase, letting students shine in stunning costumes, plus a Musical Games Night featuring family feud, trivia and fun team activities.
