⭐ Meet Lily Gubbay ⭐
I have been a long time Ambassador and Volunteer for Cancer Council since my own cancer diagnosis in 2015. When I recovered and regained some of my voice back I wanted to do something more meaningful that would have a bigger impact on people's lives especially those affected by cancer. I also have great respect and admiration for the work that Cancer Council does in researching cures for all types of cancers.
As a cancer survivor, and having lost my husband last year I feel that I could do more with my time to raise funds for such a great cause. I have lived in The Hills and Parramatta area for around 4 years now. I started a business as a coach in Leadership and Personal/Professional Development as well as consulting on building positive workplace culture. But I'm taking this Dancing challenge on for Cancer Council NSW because they are my favourite charity and I'm a raving fan!
And the sad truth is that cancer affects so many families. It took the lives of my beautiful beloved cousin Stella and my niece Monica at such young ages. And it almost took my life and voice away. I will not let cancer stop me. I still have legs and I certainly hope and bet you anything that I can still dance! Let's wait and see!
When Bobbie, the organiser of the Stars of Penrith, invited me to be a Star, it came as a shock as I'm 'so not a Star' by any means. I’ve been involved in other Stars events in the past to recruit Dancing Stars but never crossed my mind that I would become a 'Star' myself one day!!
Taking part in the Stars event is my way of paying it forward for the amazing support they’ve given me in my own personal growth. I was privileged and eternally grateful to be given the opportunity to take part in Cancer Council's Leadership Development Program as well as their phenomenal work in supporting those affected by cancer in our community.
A very long time ago I was a dancer in a traditional island dancing group. We performed Micronesian (Kiribati) and Polynesian island style dance shows to members of the public but nothing as scary as the bigger stage such as the Stars of Penrith!
I’m excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity to ‘Dance for Cancer’ and to have fun along the way for a such an incredible cause that has a huge long term positive ripple effect.
