Meet Mick, the host of the Drive Show on 96.5 Wave FM, where he spends every afternoon chatting with thousands of listeners across the Illawarra. His job is a dream come true—whether it's giving away prizes, discussing trending local stories, or playing THE ILLAWARRA’S BEST MUSIC, it’s never a dull moment! A typical day starts with “research” (a.k.a. scrolling social media for juicy content) and ends with him behind the mic, keeping the region entertained from 3pm until 7pm.
When it comes to joining the Stars of Wollongong Dance for Cancer, Mick has personal motivation. After cancer affected his own family last year, he’s ready to dance for a cause close to his heart. While his family member is recovering, Mick knows not everyone is so lucky, and he’s determined to help bring relief to those still fighting or overwhelmed hearing “I have cancer” for the first time.
Though Mick hasn’t danced on stage since 2016, he has a big advantage: rhythm. And yes, just like Shakira, his hips don’t lie. While he’s a bit nervous (his knees are most concerned!), he’s excited to bring the energy with the right kind of popping and locking to tracks like Dizzee Rascal’s Dance Wiv Me—what a banger!
When he’s not on the air, Mick loves adventure and football (his vintage Arsenal jersey collection proves it), and he’s excited to take on the Stars challenge. If he could pick a celebrity dance partner, it would be Hugh Jackman—but only if he’s rocking the Wolverine costume!
Living on the South Coast, Mick is grateful for the stunning beaches, which make him feel right at home in the Illawarra. So, get behind Mick as he dusts off his high school musical moves!
