Cancer has touched my life and the lives of so many people I care about. My Mum was diagnosed with melanoma before I was born and, thanks to treatment from Dr Chris O’Brien, is still cancer-free. In 2009, my Dad was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Blood Leukemia and is now in remission after chemotherapy. My Omi, my German grandmother, was diagnosed with bowel cancer at 79 and went on to live to 96 after successful treatment. These experiences have made me deeply aware of how vital cancer research and support are.
Joining Stars of Penrith is my way of giving back while having fun. I’ve always enjoyed dancing, from competing in physical culture competitions as a child to now taking social classes. I love anything with a good beat or classic Aussie anthems that get everyone singing along.
I’m a competitive person, and I hope that energy will be my biggest strength on the dance floor! I’m a little nervous about dancing in front of my work colleagues, who will be cheering me on, but I’m excited for the challenge.
My goal is to raise $6,000 for the Cancer Council by rallying support from the community and connecting with people across my network, both in Penrith and beyond.
