Ollie Hannon

Hey, my name is Ollie!

I’m 29 years of age, hailing from Sydney’s North Shore. A little too curious for my own good — I’ve spent the last few years looking into all things AI as a PhD researcher and educator. I also love martial arts, teaching all ages Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the side. 

More importantly, I am here because cancer decided to throw me a nasty curveball in 2023. Even with a very good prognosis, it has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever dealt with both physically and mentally, and it’s safe to say that I wouldn’t have made it through without a very generous support network. This includes the incredible work that Cancer Council volunteers do, as well as the helpful resources that this wonderful organisation provides to patients like me to help make sense of really tough and uncertain times.

I’m now slowly recovering after last year’s surgeries and chemotherapy, and I’m keen to give this dance battle a crack for a really great cause. Not just due to my own experience, but also because the Cancer Council has helped many of my loved ones during their own cancer journeys, and I want to help make sure that future patients and families have the positive experience that we have had through what can be a really tricky time for all.
