Peta Skilbeck
I’m thrilled to be joining Stars of the Central Coast 2025, for a cause that’s close to my heart.
Cancer affects 1 in 2 people during their lifetime, touching us all in some way. As a gynaecologist and passionate advocate for women’s health, I see the impact of cancer every time I deliver a diagnosis—it’s a moment that forever changes lives. But I also witness incredible resilience: women who beat cancer, but are left navigating the ongoing challenges it can bring, like issues with sexual health that are too often brushed aside.
On the flip side, I’ve seen how research changes lives. Advances in cervical cancer screening and management are saving lives, and one day in the not too distant future, we may even eradicate it entirely. One of my most inspiring moments was helping a patient who, after invasive cervical cancer surgery (which involved removal of her cervix) went on to birth two beautiful babies. It’s stories like these that fuel my determination to raise funds for cancer research.
For those who don’t know me, I’m a local obstetrician and gynaecologist who owns and runs local women’s health clinic, Intuition Private Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I’ve called the Central Coast home since I was nine. Outside of work, I’m a mum of two, and I unwind by reading, exercising, knitting, building Lego, and, when the opportunity arises, singing my heart out at karaoke.
Now, here’s the twist: I’ve never had formal dance training. I’m the first to admit I’m uncoordinated and not exactly graceful, but I promise to bring plenty of enthusiasm and laughter to the stage.
I’m so excited to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council in 2025, and I’d love for you to join me on this journey. Let’s work together to make a difference!
