I was both thrilled and nervous when I received a nomination to compete in Dancing with the Stars—nominated by a good friend. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dance, but performing on stage in front of a live audience? That’s a whole different story! My amazing friend of over 20 years, who has been my work partner for the past 10 years, is currently undergoing treatment for tongue and throat cancer. It’s been an incredibly tough time for her and her family, and it’s driven me to step far out of my comfort zone and dance my heart out for her. I’m also determined to raise much-needed awareness of head and neck cancer along the way. A lover of a good dance herself, we’ve shared many a night dancing together on dance floors all around the world! My hope is that she will be well enough to come along on the night to enjoy the whole experience and maybe one day, be up there on stage herself!
Originally from Cardiff, Wales, I took a leap of faith and moved to Australia in 2008 with my Australian husband, and we’ve proudly called the Central Coast home since 2014. We have two wonderful school-aged children, and everything I do is inspired by the desire to make them proud. Most weekends, you’ll find me cheering them on at cricket matches, but this time, I’m thrilled to give them the chance to cheer for me!
Over the past 24 years, I’ve worked as a physiotherapist in a variety of healthcare settings, from private practices to public hospitals, and in every role, I’ve been inspired by the incredible resilience of the people I’ve encountered.
While I’m stepping into the spotlight for my dear friend, I’m also dancing for the many colleagues and patients I’ve met along the way—those who’ve shown incredible bravery in their fight against cancer, and those we’ve sadly lost. The strength they’ve shown in the face of such adversity has deeply moved me, and it’s why I’m committed to raising awareness and crucial funds for the Cancer Council.
With your support, we can help the Cancer Council continue to provide essential services to families living with cancer, fund vital research that could one day lead to a cure, and offer invaluable resources for healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible care for patients. Together, we can make a difference.
