Sharon is and always has been in the people business. From time spent in her first job as a dental nurse to currently serving the community as a Ballina Shire Councillor for the past 16 years and her work as a Civil Celebrant, where she assists families farewell their loved ones, joining couples together through marriage and naming babies.
Sharon works tirelessly, volunteering her time on a plethora of National, State and Local Government committees. When asked why she devotes so much of her time to community, she replied with, “It’s like this, the adrenaline rush you feel when you know that your work has made a difference, is something you can’t get on a ride at Dreamworld.
It’s the best feeling ever! It is both an honour and a privilege to serve your community and to be recognized by the NSW Government for my work in 2005 as NSW Ballina Electorate Woman of the Year and again in 2014 as winner of the NSW Rural Regional Elected Representative was an incredibly humbling experience.
She went on to say “It doesn’t bother me if I embarrass myself dancing at the Stars event, at least I’ll give people a laugh and raise some much-needed funds for cancer. I’ll be dancing for all those who have experienced the pain of cancer, a family member, friends, colleagues, neighbours.
All those people that have had to contend with this dreaded disease. In other words, I’ll be dancing for just about all of us. Because when it comes to cancer, we’re all in this together.
