I'm fundraising for my dad
My name is Stevey Arena and I am the eldest daughter of Chris CM Murphy, long-time manager of INXS. I am seriously dedicated to fulfilling my father’s legacy and continuing his plans for Sugar Beach Ranch, a beachside haven in South Ballina.
He was not only my dad, he was my best friend, my role model, my dancing partner and my biggest fan.
Growing up, there was always parties and events at every opportunity…dad loved to entertain and always ensured he had a rural property to balance out the intense life he lived on the road whilst managing INXS.
He worked hard and played hard too…
There are too many memories to recall of us dancing together, there was always a twist contest to be battled out or a fat boy slim track turned up so loud we would shake the windows. My favourite memory however is dancing to the song from pulp fiction - jack rabbit slim’s twist contest - with my dad at my wedding…
When my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - mantle cell lymphoma in late October 2020, he sat me and my brothers down and told us not to be sad as he had lived 6 life’s… travelling the world, meeting the Queen, and playing polo with Prince Charles, now the King, eating delicious food in every corner of the world, loved his family and had a lot of fun.
He contributed so much to this world - from agriculture to entertainment- through his dedication to always finding a better way in all his endeavours. He was and will always be an innovator and entrepreneur.
I am dancing for him, and dancing for me… it’s part of my healing process…
But most of all to help raise monies to support the cancer council in their efforts to create awareness and prevention about cancer. Dads cancer journey was swift, from diagnosis to passing was less than 3 months, I barely had a moment to understand what was happening, but the team of doctors who treated him and the counselling systems through the hospital were very supportive.
If you were lucky enough to meet my dad and luckier still to dance with him, then you would also know he would want you to support this cause.
