The Principal of Australian Christian College Singleton, Tim Shields is a leader known for his steady presence, thoughtful vision, and genuine commitment to helping students and communities thrive.
Originally from Sydney, Tim shifted from the property industry into education after discovering a deep passion for people and the positive role great schools can have in helping build strong families. His commitment to professional growth and experience has taken him across Australia and around the world, from two years in a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia to classrooms in London, Thailand, Sydney, and the Hunter Valley. Moving to The Hunter 17 years ago, Tim and his wife, Belinda, also an educator, have raised their 3 children in The Hunter actively engaging in local sporting and community activities.
For Tim, taking part in Stars of The Hunter aligns with his heart and purpose: people, families, community. Under his leadership, ACC Singleton has enjoyed a 5-year partnership with Cancer Council hosting an annual Biggest Morning Tea event, rallying students, staff, families, and local businesses to serve, celebrate life, raise funds for vital research and support important services.
Over the past few years, a number of people close to Tim have received a diagnosis of cancer, experienced the challenges of treatment and, for some, the experience of the loss. He has observed the combination of fear, courage, pain and joy. So, whilst he is quite nervous about hitting the stage, he feels compelled and excited to be involved with Stars of the Hunter. During her 50th birthday speech, a life-long friend of Tim’s who has faced her own cancer diagnosis and treatments over the past two years, made a comment that further inspired Tim’s commitment. Referring to the fear of treatment, she said “Sometimes fear does not subside and you must do it afraid."
