MMJ Wollongong have been proud supporters of this event. This is our 5th year taking part and this year, when MMJ asked for volunteers, I thought it would be a great challenge for me. I turn 50 this year. I might have done the usual thing and had a big party to celebrate, but I thought, what better way to celebrate than to do something challenging and give back in some way, to make it a meaningful milestone. We have all been touched by losing loved ones to cancer, in that, I am no different to anyone else. But on reflection, I am happy to say that in the last decade, I have known a lot more friends and family to survive a cancer diagnosis than to succumb to cancer. Without the work of organisations like Cancer Council, that would be a very different statistic. So why Stars of Wollongong and not something else â my sister, Becky, is the dancer of our family. She has studied dance right up to a tertiary level and lives for the art form. I am not a dancer. Not in any sense. My sister would always tease me about my lack of dance ability. Becky is also a breast cancer survivor. So I am taking this challenge in her honor and in honor of all my dear friends and family who have looked at their cancer diagnosis, head on, and said nothing will stop them. It is that spirit, with which I will approach this challenge. Three interesting facts about myself, during lock down I taught myself to play the ukelele. My dream job would be to one day host ABC Tvâs Play School. I love the water and have recently taken swimming back up as my exercise of choice.
