JAIME CANAVAN | COMMUNITY BUILDER & ADVOCATE
Community is at the heart of everything Jaime does. A mum of two boys, devoted dog owner to two energetic border collies, and passionate community engagement professional, Jaime is dedicated to creating connections and opportunities that help people thrive.
As the founder of HV Care in the Hunter Region, Jaime works to empower people living with disability to live with choice, independence and confidence. Beyond her business, she serves as Vice President of the Maitland Business Chamber, co-founded Port Connect, and volunteers as a Board Director with Path 2 Change, supporting vulnerable young people facing homelessness.
When asked to take part in Stars of Newcastle, Jaime saw an opportunity to combine her love of community with a cause that is deeply personal. Her family has been profoundly impacted by cancer, with her brother diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at 16 and her mum courageously overcoming cancer three times. Those experiences showed her the far-reaching impact cancer has on families and the vital role Cancer Council plays in providing support, guidance and hope.
While dancing may be outside her comfort zone, Jaime is embracing the challenge with the same determination and enthusiasm she brings to everything she does. For her, Stars is about honouring those affected by cancer, bringing people together, and proving that sometimes the most meaningful things happen when you say yes to something that scares you.
