Amy McMiles

Stars of Orange 2026

Meet Amy McMiles 💃

Amy is the heart behind the day‑to‑day running of Kumiai Ryu High Impact, managing everything from bookwork to instructing. But her favourite part of every day is connecting with the wonderful families who walk through the doors, it's the people who truly make her job special.

She’s stepping onto the dance floor for Stars of Orange Dance for Cancer with powerful motivation. Cancer has deeply touched her life. She lost her father to bowel cancer 20 years ago and her mother to thyroid cancer two years later. At 22, she discovered she carries Lynch syndrome, the same hereditary gene mutation that affected several members of her family. Because of this, she began regular cancer screening at 25, screenings that ultimately saved her life.

At 32, a 4.5cm bowel tumour was found during one of those routine checks. Within two weeks, she underwent major surgery followed by six months of chemotherapy. Today, three years on, she is cancer‑free and profoundly grateful for early detection and accessible medical care.

She is dancing to honour her parents, raise awareness of hereditary cancer syndromes, advocate for the importance of screening, and support continued research and treatment. For her, Dance for Cancer is a way to turn personal experience into action, awareness, and hope.

Determined by nature, her biggest strength in this competition is her grit, though she admits that dancing in front of a crowd is definitely nerve‑wracking. She loves any song with a good beat, and with Robert Irwin as her dream dance partner, she knows she’d have fun on any dancefloor.

A few fun facts about her: she was born in Western Sydney, she struggles to say no, and she’s only recently discovered a love of reading.

Her favourite thing about living in Orange is its incredible community spirit, how people come together when it matters most.

She has set a fundraising target of $10,000 and is dancing not just for herself, but for every family impacted by cancer.
