Julie Sidery-Wood

Stars of The North 2025

Julie Sidery-Wood

My family and I have been blessed to be part of the Northbridge community for nearly 28 years.  After a busy corporate life in Healthcare Marketing for me, it has been the perfect place to raise a family and get involved in the local schools and community.

Currently, I'm enjoying being a regular volunteer at my local aged care home and have recently become a Movement Practitioner with "Dance Health Alliance,"  a not for profit organisation, running therapeutic dance programs for seniors in aged care and community centres.   It’s such a rewarding role to share the joy of dance with people who thought their dancing days were behind them, while improving their physical, cognitive and social well-being all at the same time!

I took up dancing late in life, joining the mum's class at my kids local studio.  Not wanting to cramp their style, (or was it them cramping mine, )  led me to Active Dance, a wonderful group of mums in Lane Cove.  These days I'm dancing more than ever at G Power Dance Fitness, with a fab, mixed group between twenty and seventy plus years, which l absolutely love as it helps me to feel eighteen again, several times a week!

Through the studio, I've been supporting Stars of The North for the last couple of years, having sadly lost my dad, father-in-law and two beautiful aunties to cancer.  We've also witnessed the courage and resilience of others in our extended circles on their own journey's.  The decision to take to the stage myself this year though, is personal, following the recent passing of one of our dearest friends.

Embracing our 2025 motto of, “If Not Now, When?” I see this as an opportunity to honour her, our dads, and other friends and family, by doing something I love  to make a difference.

I believe we can all be dancing queens, regardless of our age, ability, or experience—it’s just about having a go and some fun on the way!  I couldn't think of a better way (however nerve wracking,) to raise money for this essential cause.  Thank you for your support!

My Updates

Only 4 weeks to go- Filming Day!

The physio & exercises continue, while all the things I should & want to be doing are not!  Briony and I finally get to walk through some moves & tentatively feel out the leg..  2 more weeks before full impact  is advised.. Frustrating to say the least so have been trying to remain positive & focus on other important things for the event, like fundraising, organising support for the night & getting the awareness out there…  And if I didn’t feel like it was ever going to happen, the Filming Day brought home the goal in 4 weeks time!
Recording the pre-performance interviews was fun albeit slightly nerve wracking, but it was great to finally meet some of the other dancers along with the amazing, Rob Lopez, our very own, Sonia Krueger” for the night!

There’s Nothing Like Community!

Have been blessed to receive lots of  support, well wishes  & donations from all the various pockets of my Northbridge community!

Bracing For The Worst, Hoping For The Best

Having confirmed the fracture & tear, my partner Briony & I were unsure if we’d be able to go ahead with the event given the 6-8 weeks healing needed for the bone & muscle.   This would put a huge amount of pressure on the weeks leading up to the event with no real guarantees it would be ok..
So with the help of  Mc Connell Physio,  I’ve been receiving bi-weekly  physio, & doing no impact exercises, whilst abstaining from rehearsals and all the things I normally do!

Ironic “twist” of fate & case of bad timing!

April was Falls Prevention Month In Aged Care!
If only it was in March- I slipped & fell on a wet road walking my dog on March 31st, only to discover  I’d sustained a small fracture &  torn my calf muscle just 8 weeks out from the event!
“ Not happy Jan!”

The journey begins…
