Scrubs to Sequins
I'm Tap Dancing for Charity
By day I am a surgeon and mother of two boys, but for the next few months by night I’m trading my scrubs for sequins and dancing for a cause. Whilst I’m comfortable performing in an operating theatre, I will soon be in a very different kind of theatre.
I’ll admit I did go to dance school as a child, but that was more than 25 years ago, so I’m definitely out of practice… unless you count my regular ‘bedroom boogies’ which my sons have enthusiastically inherited.
Naturally competitive, I couldn’t resist the challenge of becoming a star, although the cause is deeply personal to me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. Overnight I went from caring for patients to being one.
So I’m dusting off my tap shoes and hoping that, even if I don’t shuffle-ball-change my way to perfect scores, I can tap my way into your support.
