My Dance for a Cancer-Free Future
Hi everyone! I’ve decided to trade my everyday shoes for some dancing ones and have been accepted as a "Star" for the 2026 Stars of the North - Dance for Cancer gala. I am equal parts terrified and absolutely buzzing with excitement!
Why I’m Stepping Up
We often hear the statistic that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. For me, that isn't just a number; it’s a reality that has hit home far too often. I lost both my mother and my brother-in-law to this disease. Of my close circle of six highschool friends, every single one of us has lost at least one parent to cancer. And one of my beautiful friends is currently battling with cancer - again.
I’m participating because I want to do my part to change those statistics by raising funds for Cancer Council’s world-class research, support services, and advocacy.
Why Dance?
They say you should do something that pushes you out of your comfort zone, and this is certainly it! I have always loved the way music makes me feel and want to move, and although I think myself as average on the dance floor, dance brings me joy - And pairing that passion with a cause that genuinely saves lives felt like the perfect opportunity. I might not have the professional moves (yet!), but I promise to bring all the heart, soul, and "sparkle" I can muster to that stage.
How You Can Help
My goal is to raise at least $10,000 to support a cancer-free future. Every dollar raised goes directly to the Cancer Council, which relies almost entirely on the generosity of our community.
