How your fundraising helps

Cancer Council is internationally renowned for innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support.

Every day, we work to prevent cancer, empower patients through providing information and support, and save lives.

Cancer Council NSW is an independent, 94% community funded charity. Our unique combination of local program delivery, community engagement and state-wide influence enables everyone who cares about cancer to make the biggest possible difference.

1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and the impact on families, carers and communities is significant.

Cancer Council NSW is the only organisation that works across every area of every cancer by: • Conducting and funding world-class research that underpins our work in preventing cancer • Supporting people as they navigate the cancer journey • Advocating to ensure that governments take action on cancer

In addition to our research, advocacy, support and prevention state-wide, we aim to remain connected with our local community depending on their needs.

Funds raised stay local, allowing Cancer Council NSW to continue to provide access to support services to the Blacktown and Parramatta Local Government Areas

In the Blacktown and Parramatta Local Government Areas, Cancer Council NSW has been there to respond to 466 calls from residents in the last financial year who contacted the Information and Support Service, 13 11 20, for emotional, practical, financial and legal assistance.

We have a presence with our Cancer Council Information Centres at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals reaching out to cancer patients who are going through treatment and connecting them with our resources and relevant programs. One of our programs ‘Enrich’ caters to cancer survivors post treatment, aiming to help them restore their physical and emotional health.

We have also connected with 399 early childhood centres, primary schools and Out of School Hours care centres in these local areas to provide children a sun safe environment and encourage education of preventing skin cancer. We will continue to educate our community about cancer prevention behaviours because 1 in 3 cancers are preventable from lifestyle changes. We regularly present to our community on this topic.
