Dan Hewitt & Adam Ashcroft
Adam and Dan, both passionate members of the Millthorpe community, are stepping out of their comfort zones for a great cause by participating in Stars of Orange. They see this as an opportunity to not only raise awareness but to also bring their village together in support of a common cause. Together, they aim to raise funds while providing a space for others who have experienced cancer to come together, share their stories, and find solidarity.
Adam, was born into the supermarket industry, spending his childhood mucking around in the office and back storerooms. His upbringing was active and full of outdoor sports, which is where he developed his passion for community and connection. For Adam, this cause is deeply personal. Prostate cancer has impacted several generations of his family, including his father, who was diagnosed in 2017. Thanks to early detection and prompt action, his father is now cancer-free, a fact that fills Adam with pride and hope. He believes strongly in the power of early diagnosis and encourages men to take proactive steps for their health. “We’re great at servicing our cars every year but neglect our own health,” he shares. “A simple blood test once a year shouldn’t be too hard. We need to look out for ourselves—and for each other.”
Though Adam has always been actively involved in sports, he admits that dancing is far outside his comfort zone. In fact, he describes it as “embarrassing, awkward, and non-existent.” But he’s committed to helping others by pushing past that discomfort, all in the name of raising funds for research and furthering the fight for a cancer free future.
Dan, who moved to Australia from England 22 years ago, shares Adam’s passion for supporting great causes and is excited to get involved in Stars of Orange. A personal connection that drives Dan is the inspiration from his cousin, who battled cancer when she was young. Her strength and resilience through her journey have inspired countless others and continue to motivate Dan to raise awareness.
Together, Adam and Dan hope their involvement will inspire others to take action, seek early detection, and become more aware of the critical role that research plays in overcoming cancer.
“We’ve all been touched by cancer in one way or another,” Adam reflects. “The more research that can be carried out, the better. This is our chance to make a difference and help others find the same positive outcomes I’ve seen in my father.”
